We are the PRIDE of Niwot!
Take your previous band experiences to a whole new level.
Outstanding and dedicated musicians perform at home football games, local parades, and marching exhibitions. You’ll enjoy meeting new friends, playing music, and performing with other high school musicians.
Expectations
In order to participate in the “Pride of Niwot” Cougar Marching band, students are REQUIRED to attend BAND CAMP (typically in late July - Early August)
Additionally, students MUST be enrolled in the “Marching Band” class during the Fall semester.
Any student who attends BAND CAMP but can no longer participate in the ensemble will owe a “dropped program” fee to cover the cost owed to the time spent to the drill writer and ensemble for writing, learning, rewriting, and relearning drill.
Students must attend weekly evening rehearsals in addition to class periods during the marching band season.
Students must participate in ALL HOME FOOTBALL GAMES, SVVSD BAND NIGHT, as well as other listed required events on the calendar.
ARRIVE EARLY!! The listed start time is the actual start time, not arrive and still get set-up time.
Practice during the summer with your section (highly encouraged).
Read Marching Band HANDBOOK
Marching Band, unlike many other sports, has no “sideline”. When you are absent, no one can fill your spot for you, both at rehearsals and performances. It is therefore the biggest team sport dependent on everyone’s commitment & dedication to the program.
NOTE:
Marching Band transitions to a Concert Band following the last home football game of the season. The final performance of the season is the Evergreen Concert with the Sunset Middle School 8th grade band in early December. Marching Band members are also required to perform at (2) basketball games in January/February.
Auditions
No auditions are necessary for most sections (woodwinds and brass).
Applications/interviews for LEADERSHIP POSITIONS (drum major, section leader, band manager, social coordinator) are held in March for the following season.
Visit the DRUMLINE and COLOR GUARD pages for audition information.
Becoming a member of the
Cougar Marching Band
is an excellent opportunity to
develop your skills as a leader.
The BAND App is utilized during the season by staff & students to communicate important information and share photos. More info provided at Band Camp.
“Marching Band was my favorite thing about high school because of the community that was created by working hard toward the goal of creating an amazing show to be proud of. I loved the feeling of walking off the field after a show and seeing everyone’s smiling faces. It is something truly special to be a part of a community like Marching Band.”
