Explore this truly American art form! We have two levels of jazz bands at Niwot High School: the Left Hand Jazz Ensemble for developing musicians, and the Niwot All-Stars for more advancing musicians.

Auditions are required for ALL potential jazz band musicians so that you can be placed in the right level. These auditions can be very competitive, and not all auditioning students earn a place in a jazz band.

Jazz Band (aka Left Hand Jazz Ensemble)

Students will improve basic improvisational and music reading skills while learning to play a variety of musical styles. Improving skills and a commitment to the ensemble is a priority. Students will perform in several concerts throughout the year. Students who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass, piano, or drums are encouraged to audition. Attendance for all performances is required.

Advanced Jazz Band (aka Niwot All-Stars)

Students will continue to improve improvisational and reading skills while learning to play a wide array of musical styles at an advanced level. Improving individual skills and a commitment to the ensemble is a priority. There will be many opportunities to perform in our own Extravaganza, Spectacle, and Crossroads concerts as well as a jazz combos concert at a local establishment. Attendance for all performances is required.
