Symphonic Band

Niwot High School has TWO Symphonic Band tracks that run throughout the year:

SYMPHONIC BAND is a non-marching, sit-down style performing ensemble that runs during the Fall and Spring semesters. Students in Symphonic Band will work on traditional and contemporary band works from a variety of composers in a variety of styles. Symphonic Band is designed to build on skills developed in middle school.

Students should expect to practice 15 - 20 minutes, 5x per week to excel in this class.

ADVANCED SYMPHONIC BAND is an extension of Marching Band, offered during the same block Spring semester. This is an AUDITION-ONLY group that will work on challenging band works from a variety of composers in a variety of styles. Preference is given to filling out ideal instrumentation.

  • Students should expect to practice at least 30 minutes, 5x per week to excel in this class. Private lessons are highly encouraged.

  • Auditions are DUE IN JANUARY of the previous school year.

  • Both groups perform two concerts during the Spring semester, Spectacle (March) and Crossroads (May).

  • Students will need to supply their own ALL BLACK concert attire (shoes, socks, dress pants, shirt, dress).

  • Attendance for all performances is REQUIRED.

Please review our NHS Band Courses Flow Chart to explore options for choosing classes.

Playing in band in high school has led to my growth and advancement as a musician, as a leader, and as a human. The positive energy, the hard work, and the musical complexity and intricacy have made Symphonic Band one of my favorite experiences at Niwot.
